What If Your Most "Superficial" Desires Are Actually Sacred?
I was halfway through a session with a client — she’s a kind, brilliant entrepreneur — when she sheepishly confessed: “I want a week at that ridiculously expensive wellness retreat in Italy so badly, but I feel terrible about it. Shouldn’t I be manifesting something better — like clean water for everyone?”
I started nodding even before she completed her sentence. It was exactly what I felt when I manifested a birthday weekend at the Four Seasons. It felt way too indulgent — even selfish 😬
For years, I policed my own desires like some kind of spiritual bouncer. “That’s too materialistic. That’s not evolved enough. Real spiritual people don’t want fancy things.”
I’d catch myself wanting something beautiful — maybe a gorgeous silk scarf or a weekend at a luxury spa — and then shame-spiral into guilt.
But here’s what I’ve discovered: Our desires don’t need our approval to be valid.
Whether you’re longing for that dream retreat, envisioning first-class travel, or craving that expensive skincare routine — these aren’t character flaws. They’re information from your soul about what brings you joy, beauty, and pleasure.
The Universe isn’t sitting there with a clipboard, ranking our desires from “holy” to “superficial.” We need to get honest about what lights us up so we can step into our power as conscious creators.
Another interesting point? I’ve learned that my “shallow” desires often contain deepest wisdom:
🩷 Your desire for a luxury retreat might represent your soul’s deep knowing that you need sacred rest and renewal
💙 That expensive jewelry you can’t stop thinking about might be a desire to feel beautiful and worthy of precious things
💛 The high-end online course you’ve been eyeing might be your inner wisdom knowing exactly what you need to grow and rise up to your greatest potential
When we give ourselves full permission to want what we want — without judgment, without apology — something magical happens. Our Manifesting Response System — the body’s energetic radar for what feels safe to manifest — relaxes. We stop fighting ourselves and start flowing with our authentic desires.
Here’s my invitation: What have you been wanting but not allowing yourself to fully desire?
Maybe it’s something that feels “too expensive” or “too superficial” or “too much.”
What if that desire is actually your soul’s way of asking for more beauty, joy, abundance, or expansion in your life?
Give yourself permission to want it. All of it. Without explanation or justification.
The Universe is waiting to co-create magic with the real you — not the version of you that’s trying to want the “right” things ✨
So what’s one desire you’ve been holding back from fully accepting?
