Years ago, I was apartment hunting online when I caught myself doing something so automatic I almost missed it.

Before a single listing had loaded, my fingers had already set the maximum price filter to match my budget at the time. 

It took less than two seconds, and just like that, every home above that number vanished from my screen. 

The sun-drenched corner unit with the ridiculous view never appeared, and neither did the airy kitchen made for slow Sunday breakfasts. I never saw them, so I never dreamed about them. 

That little dropdown menu was deciding which dreams ever got to enter my awareness 😳

Once I spotted the pattern, I started seeing it everywhere – in the way I’d read a restaurant menu from the prices first, or check the cost of flights before letting the daydream of a trip even begin. 

My current numbers always dictated my desires. This is one of the most common ways we shrink our manifesting without realizing it. 

The Universe is endlessly creative, and it loves working with a big, vivid vision. 

When we only ever look at what fits our current budget, we hand over a vision the size of our bank statement and ask for miracles inside it.

Something I call the Manifesting Response System – the MRS (the body’s network that processes manifesting energy through your thoughts, emotions, and beliefs) — explains exactly why this filtering habit is such a big deal. 

Your MRS creates from what it knows. When the bigger possibility never enters your awareness, your system has nothing new to register, so it keeps building tomorrow from yesterday’s numbers.

Here’s the practice I use now, and the price tag is exactly zero dollars: I browse from the elevated version of me — my Manifesting Avatar (I talk about the Avatar in Chapter 7 of my book Manifest Anything You Want). 

When I’m looking at homes or hotels, I let myself see what SHE would choose first – the version of me whose income has doubled and keeps doubling – before any filter enters the picture.

You don’t have to buy a single thing to apply this practice (your credit card can stay in your wallet 😄). 

The magic is in letting your imagination connect with a bigger vision, so your MRS starts treating it as familiar territory instead of a faraway fantasy.

So here’s my invitation for you this week: choose one place where a budget filter has been running the show, and take it off completely. 

Maybe that means scrolling homes with no maximum price, or finally looking up that dream trip without checking flight costs first – let yourself see all of it in glorious detail
