The Manifesting Mistake You're Making at the Sale Rack (and the Menu, and the Supermarket)
A few years ago, I walked into one of my favorite boutiques, and before I’d taken five steps inside, my feet carried me straight past the gorgeous new arrivals… directly to the sale rack at the back.
I never made a decision to do this. My body was simply following a route it has walked a thousand times: find the discounts first, then look for something I like among them.
Standing there holding a marked-down sun dress (that I felt lukewarm about at best, if I’m being real with you), a question popped into my head: “If every piece in this store cost the same, what would I choose?”
The answer was hanging at the front of the store — a stunning emerald green cocktail dress I’d sailed right past without a second glance 😳
I call this the sale-rack reflex… letting the price tag choose before you do.
Once you spot it, you’ll see it everywhere. It’s there when you order from the specials column before you’ve read the rest of the menu, and it’s there when you grab whatever’s discounted at the supermarket instead of what you’re craving.
Here’s why this is such a big deal for your manifesting: every time the price chooses first, your desire never gets a vote.
The Universe is endlessly generous, and it responds to clear, vivid desire. When you skip straight to “what’s cheapest,” you’re sending out the energy of “I’ll take whatever’s available”… and the Universe can only work with the order you place ✨
Now, here’s the beautiful part… shifting this costs absolutely nothing 😄
The practice happens in the choosing, long before any buying enters the picture.
I use something I call the Body as a Divining Rod (your body always knows what it desires – expansion is a yes, contraction is a no). Before I let a single price tag into the conversation, I ask myself: “What do I want here?” Then I notice my body’s answer. A true desire creates a little lift in my chest, while a “meh” choice deflates me ever so slightly.
Once desire has spoken, you get to decide anything you like. Maybe the full-price choice comes home with you, or maybe today calls for the discount after all — either way, you’ve done the real work, since your desire got to speak first.
I want to be super clear about something: I’m never going to suggest you toss your budget out the window (budgets are supportive, and I love a great sale as much as anyone!). The magic is in the order of operations… desire first, then decision.
As for the emerald green cocktail dress? She came home with me, and every time I wear her I remember exactly what choosing from desire feels like 💚
So here’s a little experiment for this week: the next time you’re about to choose something small — your lunch, maybe, or your coffee order — ask yourself what you want before you look at a single price. Notice your body’s answer, then decide however you like.
